From the earliest feedings, parents are advised to not for sweeten foods. The practice of adding sugar to foods or "frosting" meats and vegetables with sweetened fruits, desserts, or puddings should be avoided as it can easily promote a taste for sweet foods that will be difficult to control later on. The use of teething biscuits end cookies with a high sugar content should be discouraged. And of course, the infant should not be put to bed with a bottle. As the child grows, avoid between meal snacking, especially sugar containing foods. Sticky, slowly dissolving candies should be avoided on all but the most special occasions.
